Democratic candidates distancing themselves from Pres. Obama

Following the President’s speech on dealing with the terrorist group Islamic State, commonly referred to as ISIS, Democrats in tight Senate races, and even potential 2016 presidential hopefuls are putting some space between them and the Commander-in-Chief.

Alaska Sen. Mark Begich said he opposes arming Syrian rebels. “We must have greater assurance that we aren’t arming extremists who will eventually use the weapons against us,” he said.

I can’t say that I am at all surprised by this move.  President Obama came into office with the promise of pulling American troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan.  Now, he’s setting himself up for a potential open-ended conflict.

While yes, ISIS is a terrorist group that has killed innocent people, and they need to be dealt with.  The American people are not prepared by my estimations for another war in the Middle East.

Mr. President, if you’re going in, make sure you have a strategy to get out.

Pres. Obama to announce plan against ISIS

US President Barack Obama says he will speak to the nation and congressional leaders this week, putting forward his vision on how to best battle Islamic State (ISIS).

I’m very curious to see how this would play out.  Airstrikes are one thing, but will he consider troops on the ground?  If he puts troops on the ground, what is the time frame?  Will NATO and other allies be asked to back and contribute to such a plan?

I’m also curious to see how the Republicans will spin this.  The party that is all for battling terrorism, as long as the President’s job approval goes down at the same time.  The party that condoned the use of torture, tactics that have fueled US hatred around the globe.

Wednesday will be the most telling sign when Obama is set to deliver his speech to the nation.

For more preview, you can watch the President’s interview with Chuck Todd on Meet The Press.  The video is available at Huffington Post.

US Tried to Rescue Foley

A report from CNN says that there was a failed attempt to rescue James Foley and other ISIS hostages.

A source tells the cable news channel that Foley and the others were not at the targeted location.

A video was released yesterday, that has since been deemed authentic by US Intel, showing Foley being executed.

Journalists should never be caught in the crossfire of a military conflict.  I suspect, as is the case with many journalists, he was doing his damnedest to get the story.

Your contributions will never be forgotten James, and may there be swift and heavy judgement to the people who did this to you.
